Personal Musing On Monochrome Digital Cameras

    September 11, 2025 /

I was thinking of exploring the world of black-and-white digital photography so I started looking into the available options. Currently, only the Leica Monochrom and the Pentax K-3 III Monochrom are still the only native monochrome digital cameras availble, targeting photographers interested in maximising the potential for ‘true’ black-and-white photography compared to converted colour images. Many experts in the field justify the existence of this particular camera by citing the same manufacturers’ marketing claims, such as better overall image quality and the superior performance of a custom-built sensor. However, I am a photographer, not an electronics engineer or software programmer, so I care more about the final results than the technicalities.…

    Ultras

    July 20, 2016 /

I took this shot in Pescara during a night of celebration and mayhem—where passion collided with authority, and the air thickened with smoke, sweat, and sound. It wasn’t violence, not quite. It was euphoria channelling itself into a public rite, where boundaries between fanfare and disorder blurred in real time. From a photographic standpoint, the scene presented a compositional chaos that demanded structure. I used the police car as an anchor. It sits dead centre, unintentionally symbolic, both literally and metaphorically surrounded. The crowd’s energy surges outward from it, flags, limbs, phones, chants—all reaching towards the bus in the background that carries the real object of devotion: the team. Technically,…

    Portrait of Keyboard Player

    May 18, 2014 /

He had just finished a piece when I took the shot. Head tilted, hand still resting on the keys, that slight smirk not forced but earned. This wasn’t posed—it was a breath between moments, a performer halfway out of character and halfway into self-awareness. The ambient energy of the room still swirled around him—soft voices, chairs moving, blurred motion in the background—but he held still. I composed tight to emphasise the contrast between stillness and motion. The background drags slightly, figures abstracted by a slower shutter speed, but the face and fingers are crisp—anchoring the shot where it needs to be. The lighting was mixed: tungsten overhead, cooler light from…

    My First Shot (With Purpose)

    December 22, 2012 /

This is the very first shot I took with the conscious intention of “taking a photo.” No technical skill, no reading of manuals—just a camera, a chair abandoned in a field, and the instinct to frame it. I remember being fascinated by the contrast: the artificial shape of the chair dropped into a plot of neglected green, hemmed by broken walls. No narrative, just a question mark. I had no clue what I was doing. Exposure? Focus? Aperture? The camera was almost fully automatic, and I didn’t even think about composition rules. But the instinct to isolate the subject and centralise the frame kicked in, and so did a vague…
