Different Stories
Taking ‘static’ pictures, such as those of buildings and other architectural structures, can be quite challenging, as it is easy to fall into obvious, already seen compositions that rob the shot of any individuality.One of the things that can make an otherwise dull image more interesting is the presence of some kind of action that blends in with the stillness of the environment.In this case, the woman on the phone is in exactly the same position as the model on the billboard. Only they are telling two different stories.

Shooting up and close in confined space. A skill every street-photographer should hone. This photograph, Hands of a Steward, strips air travel of its grand narratives—no sweeping cabin views, no glamour of jet engines—reducing it instead to the essential human act of service. The subject is cropped tightly, showing only the steward’s forearms and hands as they prepare to serve water. I made this photograph on a foggy morning at the airport, when the air was so thick with mist that the horizon vanished entirely. The two stair trucks stood idle, angled towards each other as if in conversation, yet the absence of the plane they were meant to serve transformed the scene into something more ambiguous. What should have been a moment of transit became one of suspension. The composition leans heavily on geometry. The crosswalk in the foreground pulls the viewer in, its bold stripes leading the eye towards the vehicles in the middle distance. Priority Pass Lounge at Fiumicino Airport
A black leather sofa sits squarely in the centre, its creases marking years of passengers waiting, resting, or passing time. In front, a glass table reflects the curved lines of the airport ceiling above, while a remote control lies to one side, a small symbol of temporary control in a transient space. The setting is clean but impersonal, designed for comfort without intimacy. Composition is frontal and symmetrical. Airport lounges often exist in a strange, liminal space — neither entirely connected to the bustle of the terminal nor completely detached from it. This photograph captures that in-between feeling with an almost still-life precision. The beige armchairs, glass coffee table, and neatly placed newspaper (“La Vanguardia”) suggest a space curated for calm, yet one can sense the transient nature of those who pass through. I took this photo just after the final boarding call echoed through the terminal, the kind of stillness that only follows a rush. The lounge was cleared in minutes — all urgency gone, replaced by silence. The chairs, once wrapped in the inertia of travel, now stood like architectural punctuation against the faux-wood paneling, waiting for the next wave of restless travellers. Waiting for The Flight
Airport lounges are curious spaces—half liminal, half aspirational. I shot this at Milano Linate, where the atmosphere was oddly hushed despite the comings and goings just outside. The artificial calm was broken only by the subtle rustle of magazine pages and the occasional clink of glass. I was drawn to the symmetry—the near-theatrical lighting, the evenly placed glasses on the coffee table, and the sketchy wall mural of aeroplanes gesturing to movement while everyone inside remained still.
